Of course… like all awkward nerdy types..
They have a major crush on you…
And have for some time.
You're not really interested…
It’s not that they aren’t attractive…
Or that they couldn’t be if they gave it
Half a chance.
But you simply aren’t interested…
Although you always find the awkward crush
A bit flattering.
It’s nice to see someone so attracted to you
That they fail to actually form words properly.
In their own awkward way
They thank you for coming.
And take you what looks like a lab table
Angled at a 45 degree angle
Inside of a sealable tube.
It looks like something you’d expect to see
In a scifi movie…
Something that the crew would sleep in
While they are on a long journey.
You joke with your friend that they aren’t going
To put you stasis… are they?
And they awkwardly laugh.
They explain the tube is specifically designed
To help the person sleep.
To make sure that they get a good
Deep… nights sleep.
It uses an AI program to monitor you.
To know when you are waking up.
And to adjust the environment to simply
Get you to sleep more deeply
Then you ever have before.
It’s totally safe…
They assure you…
And say that they will be with you…
The entire night.
Watching you…
You can’t help but smile a bit at the comment
You know they will be watching you
For a different reason…
you ask more playfully to get a rise out of your friend
What is i decide to stay awake?
It won’t let you… stay awake.
They say with a satisfied smile.
It’s designed to make sure that you sleep
Try it if you want… but…
It won’t let you stay awake.
Of course you take this as a challenge.
And gently climb inside the pod
It’s warm… comfortable.
The mattress beneath you is quiet cozy
You can feel the air circulating around you
It’s a big cold for you tastes
But your nerdy friend tells you that
It will adjust to your perfect temperature.
They seal up the tube around you.
And a series of dim lights
Start to flash along the side of your body
You start to notice the fan speeds adjusting
The air getting a bit warmer
Cozy.
Comfortable
You don’t even need a blanket
You look through the glass on the tube
And hear your friend say through the speakers
Alright… here go… Nighty Night…
You give a smirk and are about to make a little
Comment about how you don’t plan to make that easy.
But before you can say anything.
A gentle puff of mist
Hits your face.
It’s sweet and cool
And the moment you inhale it
The world starts to spin
You blink a few times..
And then just feel your head flop back.
Your eyes are fluttering…
Struggling to stay open.
You’re going to resist…
You tell yourself
Before another gentle mist moves over your face
And you feel the world just
Disappear…
Your body relaxes…
Your mind simply turns…
Off…
As you feel yourself breathe
Very deeply…
Very slowly…
You’re not sure how long you're asleep..
It doesn’t feel like it was…
All that long…
Before you start to stir…
Start to groggily open your eyes
And groan.
What was that…
You ask in a sleepy state.
You hear your friend reply
A mild sedative… just a test

The system is calibrating itself…

He says with a tone that seems far less

It’s very light…

You start to see gentle flashes of light around you
The pattern is..
Easily hypnotic…
You were about to raise your hand
To shield your eyes
But a few seconds later the flashes adjust
Speed and rhythm
And your hand falls limp to your side
You try to figure out what's happening
What's going on?
But the lights adjust again
And your thoughts seem to simply be
Blinked away.
You feel your thoughts just… empty
Your mind is blank…
Your mind is gone.
You're not sure when.
But you know your eyes closed
At some point
The flashes of light
Gently blinking through your eye lids
Peaceful and calm
The tingling in your head
Lets you know that the hypnotic effects
Of the lights…
Have completely overwhelmed your normal
Brain functions
Your brain can’t wake up
You can’t even think about resisting
You're simply down.
Helpless…

Helpless and relaxed
But now something else starts
